About Border Road Organisation
In India, the Border Roads Organisation is a road construction executive force that supports the Indian Armed Forces and is now a part of them. In India’s border regions and friendly neighboring nations, BRO constructs and maintains road networks. This includes infrastructure projects in 19 states, three union territories, and neighboring nations like Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Bhutan, and Myanmar. BRO had built over 55,000 kilometers of roads, over 450 permanent bridges with a total length of over 44,000 meters, and 19 strategically located airfields by 2022. BRO is also responsible for the upkeep of this infrastructure, including snow removal.
The BRO’s parent cadre consists of personnel from the General Reserve Engineer Force and officers from the Border Roads Engineering Service.
