About JKPSC VAS
The history of the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission begins with the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Service Regulations Volume II which describes the public services of the state. The concept of conducting national competitive examinations for appointment to specific posts was explored from 1954 to 1957. In 1941, during Dogra’s reign, Maharaja Hari Singh introduced civil service exams for the first time in the state. In the past, maharajahs nominated candidates for civil service training, and after completing the training, they nominated candidates for entry into the state government.
Agha Nasir Ali was the first Kashmiri to pass the civil service exam when it was first introduced in 1941. He was the First Deputy Chief of Srinagar. The previous regulations were subsequently repealed by his 1954 Kashmir Civil Service Regulations. The establishment of JKPSC has been disclosed by the Public Service Commission of India, detailing Part 21 of the Indian Constitution and Article 370 which gives it autonomy. Article 128 of the J&K Constitution mentions the establishment of the JKPSC by him and indicates that this commission was established on his September 2nd, 1957.
