Maria Sharapova was born on April 19, 1987 in the city of Nyagan, Russia to mother Elena Sharapova and father Yuri Sharapova.
It was her father’s friend Alexander Kafelnikov who noticed Sharapova’s interest in tennis. He gifted her with her first racket, which she owned when she was four years old.
