About NHM Himachal Pradesh
A distinct Mission Directorate (NHM) has been established under the Directorate of Health under the direction of the Mission Director in order to effectively implement the National Health Mission in the State. It has a Financial Management Unit (FMU) led by Jt. Controller Finance and a Programmer Management Unit (PMU) led by a Deputy Director/State Programmer Officer. The Mission Directorate works closely with the Directorate of Health and is under the Principal Secretary’s authority (Health). The State NHM now includes the budget and plans for the vertical programmers.
The Mission in Himachal Pradesh uses the Health Department’s already-existing structures up to the level of Sub-Centers to carry out its operations. At the state level, there is a State Health Mission under the leadership of the Honorable Chief Minister. A District Health Mission has been established, with the Deputy Commissioner serving as convener and the Chief Medical Officer serving as member secretary. The government has resolved to establish Panchayati Raj and expanded public participation Rogi Kalyan Sanities up to the PHC level. Through Village Health Committees at the village level, Panchayat Sub-Committees on Health Education and Sanitation at the Panchayat level, and Rogi Kalyan Sanities in all Hospitals from PHC upwards, the community is also involved in the operation of health institutions.
