About TNPSC
The government of Tamil Nadu has a department called the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) that is in charge of regulating the process of recruiting individuals for the state’s public service. It is the successor to the Madras Service Commission, which was India’s first Provincial Public Service Commission and was establish by an Act of the Madras Legislature in 1929. In 1970, it got its current name. Articles 315 to 323 of Part XIV of the Indian Constitution govern TNPSC’s operations.
The Indian government established the Public Service Commission in 1923 to investigate the Indian Civil Service’s salary structure and the possibility of delegating some responsibilities to provincial services. Five Englishmen and four Indians made up the commission, which was chaired by Viscount Lee of Fareham. The rate of Indianisation of the Indian Police and Civil Service was another topic discussed by the commission. It determined a rate that would result in 50 percent Indian participation in the Indian Civil Service in 15 years and the same for the Indian Police in 25 years. It was largely up to the provincial governments to decide how to recruit and manage their services in a way that was considere appropriate. The governments of Madras and Punjab proposed establishing their own public service commissions as a result of the discretionary powers granted to provincial governments.
