About UPSC CSE
The Union Public Service Commission, or UPSC for short, is India’s leading central recruitment agency for Group ‘A’ officers employed by the Indian government. While the Department of Personnel and Training is the central personnel agency in India, it is in charge of making appointments to and conducting examinations for all Group ‘A’ posts of all central government establishments, which also include all central public sector undertakings and all central autonomous bodies.[1]
Part XIV of the Indian Constitution, titled “Services Under the Union and the States,” grants the agency’s charter. The Constitution requires the commission to make appointments to the Union and All India Services’ services. In addition, it must be consulted by the government regarding matters of appointment, transfer, promotion, and discipline. The commission can provide advice to the government through the President because it reports directly to him. However, the Government is not obligated to follow such advice. Along with the country’s higher judiciary and most recently the Election Commission, UPSC, a constitutional authority, is one of the few institutions that operate independently and freely.
The commission has its own secretariat and has its headquarters at Dholpur House in New Delhi. Since April 5, 2022, Dr. Manoj Soni has been in charge of the UPSC. It was established as the Public Service Commission on October 1, 1926 and the Government of India Act of 1935 later renamed it the Federal Public Service Commission; after independence, it changed its name to Union Public Service Commission.
UPSC CSE 2024 Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

To apply for the UPSC CSE, candidates must complete the online application form at upsconline.nic.in. Candidates should read the official announcement and instructions on the upsconline.nic.in website before registering for the exam. To apply for the exam, candidates should follow the steps below.
- Submit a scan copy of your ID & signature.
- To be considered, you must submit your applications by the deadline specified in the official statement.
- Without payment of the request fee, the application will not get approved.
- Applicants should apply as soon as possible because there is a cap on the number of candidates given to each exam center, with some exceptions, and exam centers get assigned on a “first-apply-1st-allot” basis.
