Selection Criteria of the YUVIKA ISRO 2024 Program

Students in the 9th grade as of January 1, 2024, are qualified to seek admission to the YUVIKA ISRO 2024 initiative.

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has announced the selection criteria for its Young Scientist Program 2024. The two-week program is open to students in ninth or tenth grade who have completed their eighth standard. Selection will be based on academic performance, interest in science, and extracurricular activities. Students from rural areas and government schools will receive preference to promote diversity and inclusivity.

  • The applicant must have achieved a minimum of 50% marks in Class 8.
  • The weightage of the applicant’s students’ performance in the online quiz should be 10%.
  • The applicant’s involvement in the science fair or quizzes should account for 2/5/20% (school/district/state and beyond) over the past three years.
  • Over the past three years, the weighting for ranks 1 to 3 in Olympiads or similar competitions at the school. District, state, or higher levels should be 2/4/5%.
  • 15% of students attend schools in rural or village areas within the panchayat.
  • In the past three years, the winners of sports competitions have achieved rankings of 1st, 2nd. And 3rd places at the school, district, state. And higher levels, with a success rate of 2%, 4%, and 5% respectively.
  • Guides, Scout/NSS members, and NCC should be given a 5% weightage over the last three years.

ISRO Centers for the YUVIKA Program

The YUVIKA program is scheduled to take place at seven ISRO centers in India.

  • Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), Dehradun
  • U.R. Rao Satellite Center (URSC), Bengaluru.
  • Satish Dhavan Space Center (SDSC), Sriharikota.
  • Space Applications Center (SAC), Ahmedabad.
  • National Remote Sensing Center (NRSC), Hyderabad.
  • Vikram Sarabhai Space Center (VSSC), Thiruvananthapuram.
  • North-Eastern Space Application Center (NE-SAC), Shillong.

The state government will fund the travel expenses to and from ISRO centers for select students as part of the program. Students are require to present their original bus tickets or seek reimbursement for second AC fare.

  • Uploading the certificates is the next step. Students must have their certificate photocopies attested with the signature of the principal/head of the school for verification. After that, remember to scan the verified certificates and upload them on the portal.
