IPS Basant Rath Allegations
In June 2022, he announced his resignation from the IPS and expressed his wish to contest elections against Omar Abdullah of the National Conference or Mehbooba Mufti of the Peoples Democratic Party on a BJP ticket. However, in August 2023, he was voluntarily retired by the Union government following two years of suspension for alleged misconduct and indiscipline. He then registered himself as a BJP activist online. But the J&K leadership of the party said that there was no place for indiscipline in the party. And that he would not be allowed to enter the party headquarters.
Retirement
Due to repeated cases of gross misbehavior and misconduct, Basant was suspended in July 2020. The suspended Police Officer Basant Rath was then given premature retirement by the Ministry of Home Affairs on August 9, 2023. His suspension was prolong in July 2023, but he will retire in August. The Ministry of Home Affairs also instructed the Jammu and Kashmir Administration to make a cheque for three months’ salary and give it to the IPS Basant Rath.
