Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited, Mumbai, ISO 9001: 2015 The company is one of India’s leading shipyards. The history of Mazagon Dock dates back to 1774 when a small dry dock was built in Mazagon. Over the years, MDL has built a reputation for quality work and established a tradition of competent and resourceful service to the shipping industry in general and to the Indian Navy and Coast Guard. It was established in 1934 as a private limited company.
After being taken over by the government in 1960, Mazagon Dock quickly became one of India’s premier warship-building yards, producing warships for the Navy and offshore structures for Bombay High School. The company has evolved from a single small ship repair company to a multi-unit, multi-product company by significantly increasing production, using the latest technology and improving its products. The company’s current design portfolio includes a wide range of products for domestic and international customers. Since 1960, MDL has built a total of 801 ships, including 27 warships, ranging from modern destroyers to missile boats and 7 submarines. MDL has also supplied cargo vessels, passenger vessels, supply vessels, utility vessels, water tankers, tugs, dredgers, trawlers, barges, border crossings, etc. to various customers in India and abroad.
