Shreegauri Sawant was born as Ganesh Suresh Sawant on 22 July 1980 in Bhavani Peth, Pune, Maharashtra. Her father, Suresh Sawant, is a police officer and her mother died when she was seven years old.

Bio

Shreegauri or Gauri, as you prefer, is a transgender who has also helped to change the lives of many people. After accepting and being comfortable with who she is, she understood that being a different person is a constant struggle.

Shreegauri Sawant realized that she had feminine traits since childhood and did not identify with her assigned gender. She used to play with girls and enjoyed games like Ghar- Ghar and teacher-teacher. She faced ridicule and discrimination from her classmates and teachers for her feminine gestures. When she was 10 years old, she told her aunt that she wanted to be a mother when she grew up, but everyone laughed at her.

Shreegauri Sawant left her home at the age of 14 or 15 as she did not want to disappoint her father. She moved to Mumbai and joined a group of transgender people who taught her how to dress up and apply makeup. She also started working as a sex worker to earn money. She faced many hardships and abuses in her life, but she never gave up on her dreams.

Her mother tried to abort her in the 7th month of pregnancy, but luckily, she came into this world as a gift or a miracle. You can see that her struggle began in her mother’s womb itself. Gauri was born and raised in Pune, Maharashtra. She is a Marathi, and from the childhood she wanted to be a “Mother”. She believed that there is no caste, gender, or anything to be a mother.
