Annexure 1: Sh. Parmahansa Yogananda Scholarship

To honor the achievements of Indian monk Shri Paramahansa Yogananda, who lived in the US for 32 years and taught Americans sophisticated yogic practices, Shoolini University established a one-time award of INR 50,000. Yogananda was born in Calcutta in 1893, the same year that Swami Vivekananda gave his well-known Vedic religion address at the Parliament of the World’s Religions in Chicago. The United Nations Assembly proclaimed June 21st as the International Day of Yoga on December 11, 2014. On the International Day of Yoga homepage, there was an image of Yogananda. Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, proposed June 21 as the International Day of Yoga, citing the day’s “special significance in many parts of the world and its status as the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere.” Yoga is a priceless gift from India’s long history. It represents balance between man and nature, thinking and deed, constraint and fulfillment, and a whole-person approach to health and wellness. Yogananda’s accomplishments are unsurpassed and have received recognition on a worldwide scale.

The 100 questions that were chosen from the well-known book “Autobiography of a Yogi” will be used to choose the winners of the scholarships based on concise questions and brief replies, correct or wrong. The book is available for free from the Vice-Chancellor’s office for those who want to take the scholarship exam. Details on the scholarship exam, which will take place on campus, will be released as soon as they are available. Students enrolled in Shoolini University’s undergraduate program are able to participate.
