Richard Gere Wiki:- Richard Gere, full name Richard Tiffany Gere, is an American actor and humanitarian who was born on August 31, 1949, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. He is perhaps best known for his roles as gentlemen in romantic movies. Gere spent his young life in upstate New York. He received a gymnastics scholarship to attend the University of Massachusetts in Amherst in 1967, but he dropped out after two years to work as a musician. He started acting in summer programs all over New England and played in numerous bands. In 1972, he was cast as an understudy in the rock musical Grease on Broadway, following roles with the Seattle Repertory Theatre and the Provincetown Players on Cape Cod.
Gere played the lead role in a London production of the play the following year. He only had a small part in his first movie, 1975’s Report to the Commissioner, but he became famous for his performance with Diane Keaton in 1977’s Looking for Mr. Goodbar, a dark study of a troubled young woman. For his roles in films like Terrence Malick’s Days of Heaven (1978), which was about a young couple and their relationship with a farmer in Texas, and American Gigolo (1980), in which he played an escort for older women, Gere became known as a sex symbol.

He contributed to the establishment of the AIDS Care Home, a residential facility in India for HIV-positive women and children, and he also supports AIDS education and awareness initiatives there.

Career
In the 1982 film An Officer and a Gentleman, Gere played the role of Zack Mayo, a young candidate for the navy. The film was a film industry achievement, and it laid out Gere as a significant star. After a few ineffectively gotten films, he scored one more hit with Pretty Lady (1990), depicting a well off finance manager who utilizes and later experiences passionate feelings for a whore (played by Julia Roberts). He was praised by critics for his role as an attorney in the 1996 courtroom drama Primal Fear, which starred Edward Norton as an altar boy accused of killing a prominent priest.
